Here are some of the definitions related to balance calibration;
Definitions Related to Balance Calibration in Pharmaceuticals:
1. Calibration: A set of operations that establish, under specified conditions, the relationship between values indicated by an instrument or system for measuring, recording and controlling or values represented by a material measure, and the corresponding known values of a reference standard.
2. Least Count: The smallest value the measuring instrument can measure is its least count.
3. Verification: The application of methods, procedures, tests, and other evaluations, in addition to monitoring, to determine compliance with the GMP principle of calibration.
4. Sensitivity: Change in the displayed value divided by the load on the balance, which causes this change.
5. Repeatability: The ability of a weighing instrument to display identical measurement values for repeated weighing of some objects under the same conditions, e.g. the same measurement procedure, same operator, same measuring system, same operating conditions, and same location over a short period.
Repeatability usually is expressed as the standard deviation of multiple weighing.
6. Eccentricity: Deviation in the measurement value caused by eccentric loading or the asymmetrical placement of the center of gravity of the load relative to the load receiver.
Eccentricity is usually expressed as the largest magnitude of any of the deviations between an off-center reading and the center reading for a given test load.
7. Operating Range: The operating range is a range in which the instrument is to be operated for measurement.
8. Out of Calibration (OOC): During calibration if any of the instrument/equipment shows the observation not meeting the acceptance criteria for any calibration parameter.
